Dayle Smith’s Family Have Been Subjected To Abuse, Harassment and Violence.
Yesterday we posted an article about local Whitworth man and convicted sex offender Dayle Smith.
Since this time we have issued a statement relating to the article, after contact and correspondence with Mr Smith’s family members.
It has come to our attention that Dayle Smith’s family have been subject to abuse and harassment from some local residents. Specifically, their windows have been smashed.
Whitworth Online would like to make it clear that we do not condone violence, bullying, abuse or harassment. We’d also like to take this opportunity to remind people that Mr Smith’s family are equally victims in this situation.
Dayle’s family would like to be left alone during this difficult time.
Please keep in mind that this is a very emotional and difficult time for the family; while Whitworth Online is dedicated to covering all relevant news in the local area, including but not limited to local crime, we can not condone any campaign of violence, fear and harassment against Mr Smith’s family members.
We have made a decision to run the story as we believe it is in the publics best interest, other media outlets have also reported on this story, as such we decided to push forward with publication.
It is never OK to take justice into our own hands, besides, Dayle Smith’s family are not the convicted offenders here.
As reported in our previous post, Mr Smith is now under section at a mental health facility and is not within the Whitworth area. Therefore our readers can rest assured that there is no risk posed to local residents.
Mr Smith’s family have refused to comment on the situation.
